Prairie Catholic's Scrip program is a very important fundraiser program for our school. It is very easy for everyone to participate in, and costs you nothing. In this section we will explain the scrip program to you and explain how you can participate.
What is Scrip?
The history of scrip goes way back to the old logging and mining camps, but basically scrip is a term that means "substitute money". We offer two forms of this "substitute money" : Local Scip and National Scrip.
Local Scrip:
Local Scrip dollars are printed by our program and look like “monopoly money”. They are sold in denominations of $2, $5, $10, $20 and $50, and are sold to you at face value. Local Scrip dollars are accepted at over 40 merchants in and around the Prairie du Chien area. Most merchants will have a “We Accept Prairie Catholic Scrip” sign posted in their establishment. Below is a list of the merchants that accept the Local Scrip dollars. Keep in mind, when paying with Local Scrip dollars; change is not given, so you will want to have a variety of denominations on hand.
Click Here to open a printable list of our local scrip merchants shown below.
How do the merchants receive their money?
Businesses that accept Local Scrip dollars can come into St. Gabriel’s Rectory on Monday mornings between 9 am and 12 pm to be reimbursed. The merchants are issued a check for a percentage of their total dollars collected. For example, if a merchant’s contribution is 5% and they have collected $100 in Local Scrip dollars, they will be issued a check for $95 and their donation to our program will be $5.
National Scrip Cards:
When you purchase National Scrip, you’re purchasing gift cards or paper certificates that are used just like cash. The Great Lakes Scrip Center(GLSC) purchases large amounts of scrip from grocery stores, department stores, gas stations, and other retailers at a discount. Our program buys the scrip at a discount, and re-sells the cards and certificates to families like yours for full face value. The discount - from 2 to 15 percent – is our program’s revenue. To see a list of all the many merchants that participate in the scrip program, click here: Great Lakes Scrip merchant listing. To watch a video demonstration of how this national scrip works click: Video Demonstration.
How do I purchase Scrip?
You can purchase Scrip daily at either Church Rectory, after any of the weekend masses in the back of Church, or via your school envelope (just place your order form and money in an envelope marked “scrip order” and it will be filled and returned to you).
We will always have an abundant supply of Local Scrip dollars available, but we only keep the most popular National Scrip on hand. (Click the following to see a printable list: In Stock Scrip Listing). The rest you can order and receive at the location of your choice. (Either school or parish office or sent home with your child via the school envelope)
How do I place an order for Scrip?
There are two ways you can go about purchasing you "National Scrip Cards", the old manual way, or the new electronic way. Either way is fine. Whatever you feel more comfortable with. Below we explain both of these ways.
Manual: This is the easiest way for people that are not comfortable with computers. At the places we sell scrip are paper forms you can fill out and turn in at those places. We also have this form online. Click the following to see the form: Scrip Order Form. Our Scrip coordinators will then take these forms and order your scrip cards on their next order date (currently about once every 2 weeks). When your cards arrive, you can pick them up at the church rectory or after any of the weekend masses. Remember though, you do not have to order those that we routinely order and have in stock. (Click the following to see the: In Stock Scrip Listing)
Electronic: This option has a lot to offer. It is called "Shopwithscrip.com" This is an exciting way to order scrip that is both a lot easier for you and our scrip coordinators. Here is how it to get started ordering this way.
- First go to shopwithscrip.com Then on the left side of the screen click the Register tab. Here you fill out the form and at the bottom hit the "I accept" button.
- This will take you to a screen that asks you what nonprofit you want to support. This requires you to enter a code number. Prairie Catholic's code number is: 315114L45414. Enter this number EXACTLY. The best way to do this is by copy and pasting if you know how to do this; otherwise be careful when entering.
- Great! Now you are ready to set up your "Presto-Pay" account. To see the great benefits of this method of payment click on this link: What is Presto-Pay Video. Now that you are logged in, on the left hand side you will see a tab that says "Presto-Pay". Click that. To see a video that will help you set up your account click on this link: Setting up Presto-Pay. These 2 videos should explain everything to get you going.
- Done! Enjoy ordering from home!
Other Exciting Things to Know!
Reloadable Scrip Cards! There are currently 9 stores that let you automatically reload your scrip cards without having to get new ones each time. Three of these are Lowes, Gap, and Old Navy. Click the following to see all of them: Re loadable Store Brands. This makes it so easy to get more scrip from these stores! For example, say you initially purchase a $100 scrip card for the Lowes store. Well now you have used most of it and have only $5 left on it. You have decided at the last minute that you would like to go to Lowe's the day after tomorrow and use scrip to pay for your purchase, but you don't have the time to order and wait for the new scrip cards to arrive. Well now all you have to do is go to Shopwithscrip.com, log in, and reload your card with the amount you want and pay with your Presto-Pay account! Within a day the card will be reloaded, and you will be able to make that purchase and also help your school out! Even though there are only 9 stores the support this option now, keep an eye out for new ones each day, since this makes a lot of sense for both the store participants and the customers alike.
Double up Using Scrip at GoodShop! If you are familiar with this site, you know that both GoodShop
and GoodSearch are very easy and great ways for our school to earn money. If you still haven't explored this area, please click on this link: GoodSearch/GoodShop Explained. Well a lot of the stores that contribute to our school though scrip cards also contribute to our school through the GoodShop site. If you use your scrip card through the GoodShop site, you will make our school money both ways! For example, say "Mary" buys a $100 scrip card for Kohl's department store. She then decides one day to shop their online store. First, she goes to Goodshop and gets to the Kohl's site that way (Because she knows that this will make our school 2% on the amount of her purchase) While online, she orders $100 worth of merchandise using her Kohl's scrip card that earns our school 4%. Well, Mary just doubled up her contribution to our school! Instead of making only $2 by going through Goodshop alone or $4 by just using her scrip card and not going through GoodShop, she made $6 for our school by combining the two together! There are hundreds of stores online that are like this, so please try to remember this when you shop online.
